Apologies for continuing to message you with regards to this but the time is nearly upon us!
The first days that some people need to be in Andover compiling the ringing world are the 14th/15th August. If you are available to head to Andover with Rupert on these days please let him and I know.
So far I haven’t seen evidence of any articles, please email me any if you have them.
Those I have ‘promised’ to me include:
Sophie – The 10 Ringers you will meet in your life
David – A piece about the trials and tribulations of organising week long summer tours when you know that you’ll probably end up destroying all the accommodation you book. And how awesome the things are (title is a work in progress)
Robert – A play on the ‘Tom, Dick and Harry’ section at the back. – Maybe a flash back to their youth or something?
Suggestions of articles we have which still need authors (please volunteer either yourselves or find somebody from another uni society who is willing to write it)
1) Funniest lost qp/peal stories.
This should write itself but may require some co-ordination is getting it together – I suggest a shout out on bellringing facebook pages, email lists and generally word of mouth. Try and get the method, location, band if possible and a short blurb. We could replace all or half of the QP space with lost QPs and have it as an addition to the Peals section.
2) Featured Tower (Hart St)
Rosemary informs me that there used to be a featured tower with some writing about the ringers you would find there. Suggestion is to make this tower Hart St, check out a couple of old ringing worlds (there’s loads in the tower let me or someone else know if you want keys or ask around, lots of people have back copies) to see the style and then do a spoof about the people who ring with UL.
3) A ‘where are they now’ article about former up and coming young ringers. This would include the likes of Mike Trimm.
4) A section on problems only ringers will understand. I know Chloe was suggesting something like this previously?
5) Something from the OUS about the teaching they do at Magdelen College School. Does anybody have any current OUS contacts and could you whip them into shape to write this? It’s a good shout out for a uni society.
Right, we need all the articles by the 13th of August at the latest really. I know this doesn’t give you much time and I am sorry.
If you could please email back volunteering to cover certain of the suggestions above (either yourself or a contact you know in another uni society). Equally if you have a burning desire to write another type of article and you have the idea let me know and then get writing!
Again, sorry for the late emailing but we really do need to get moving on this now. It will be a great opportunity to promote UL to up and coming London students already in the ringing world and I great way to infuriate older RW readers who dislike change (because that’s what students are for)
