RSS Feeds – keep up-to-date!

The UL has added another form of communication – RSS feeds!

To start with, this feature will only contain information from the blog but the plan is to extend it to include upcoming events and event reports.  The idea is that you can add the feed to your outlook express (I don’t think hotmail/yahoo supports rss feeds yet) or your prefered rss reader and receive  information quickly.  If you are still confused, I have included a brief RSS Wiki explaination:

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) [are] used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries…

An RSS document (feed) includes full or summarized text [and] publishing dates…

[They allow publishers to] syndicate content automatically…

RSS feeds can be read using… “RSS reader”, “feed reader”, or “aggregator”, which can be web-based, desktop-based, or mobile-device-based…

The user subscribes to a feed by entering into the reader the feed’s URI or by clicking an RSS icon in a web browser that initiates the subscription process.

The RSS reader checks the user’s subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads…updates…and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.

This will hopefully help promote our website which will in turn encourage the joining of new members.

A big Thank you

Hi all,

A big thank-you to all the helpers who came to Archbishop Tenison’s school in Croydon and supported the Charmborough Ring in Schools Project (CRISP) event.

The feedback has been excellent, which is down to the hard work of all the volunteers. Approximately 100, year 8 students had a go on the bells during the day as well as hand bellringing.

Perhaps the biggest compliment is that the school would be interested in a repeat event next year.

Help Required

Dear ULSCR

The Charmborough Trust is helping Jason Hughes to run a school project to introduce schoolkids to bellringing. The Charmborough Ring (see http://www.www.charmborough.org if you don’t know what this is) will be erected in a school hall and the whole of year 7 (about 90 12-year olds) will be given an introduction to ringing, with tied in mathematics work (simple worksheets on permutations) and practical sessions learning to ring the bells (this usually takes 5 minutes for the average 12-year old). There may also be handbell ringing to illustrate plain hunting.

Putting 90 kids through handling lessons over 2 days is obviously going to be pretty exhausting, and the more helpers we have, the better for everyone. It would also be good for the kids to see a few ringers who are less than 100 years old. Who knows, some of them may get bitten by the bug and perhaps even come along to the UL one day :-)

The project takes place on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th July at:

Archbishop Tenison’s

Church of England High School

Selborne Road

CROYDON CR0 5JQ

http://www.archten.croydon.sch.uk/

From 9-5 each day (times to be confirmed).

CAN YOU HELP US WITH THIS PROJECT? We can pay your travelling expenses and provide free meals.

If you only do part of this, it would be most helpful. please let me know if you can come for all or part of the time.

Best Wishes,

Roger
